(Liz’s side of the story)
Last January I made a last minute move to Washington DC. It wasn’t long before I met Matt. We instantly clicked and had many drinks, dinners, and drives, but just as “friends.” One night at dinner, Matt turned the tables: “Liz, you should date all of the boys you want, but I only want to date you and I’m going to do whatever it takes to be the last man standing.” Needless to say, his straightforwardness worked out REALLY well for the both of us. ♥️

We met in Washington D.C. while both working in the United States Senate. I was working as Senator Hatch’s Communications Director and Liz was a clerk for the Senate Judiciary Committee during her final semester of law school. It was a particularly stressful time in the Senate, and we became close by taking our breaks at the same time in the Senate cafeteria. We would get drinks and sit and chat for ten or fifteen minutes about everything that was going on with work, our families, and our social lives.
Eventually we added occasional dinner to our daily drinks ritual, and Liz quickly became the best part of all my days.
